Contributions of Tidal Poisson Terms in the Theory of the Nutation of a Nonrigid Earth

چکیده

The tidal potential generated by bodies in the solar system contains Poisson terms, i.e., periodic terms with linearly time-dependent amplitudes. The influence of these terms in the Earth’s rotation, although expected to be small, could be of interest in the present context of high accuracy modelling. We have studied their contribution in the rotation of a non rigid Earth with elastic mantle and liquid core. Starting from the Liouville equations, we computed analytically the contribution in the wobble and showed that the presently-used transfer function must be supplemented by additional terms to be used in convolution with the amplitude of the Poisson terms of the potential and inversely proportional to (σ − σn) where σ is the forcing frequency and σn are the eigenfrequencies associated with the retrograde free core nutation and the Chandler wobble. These results have been detailed in a paper that we published in Astron. Astrophys. in V. Dehant Royal Observatory of Belgium, 1180 Brussels, Belgium, e-mail: [email protected] M. In the present paper, we further examine the contribution from the core on the wobble and the nutation. In particular, we examine the contribution on extreme cases such as for wobble frequencies near the Free Core Nutation Frequency (FCN) or for long period nutations. In addition to the analytical computation, we used a time-domain approach through a numerical model to examine the core and mantle motions and discuss the analytical results.

Impact of tidal Poisson terms on nonrigid Earth rotation

Context. The tidal potential generated by bodies in the solar system contains Poisson terms, i.e., periodic terms with linearly timedependent amplitudes. Therefore, we study their contribution to the rotation of a non-rigid Earth with an elastic mantle and liquid...

Improvement of Nonrigid - Earth Nutation Theory by Adding a Model Free Core Nutation Term

Abstract. From the analysis of VLBI observational data compiled by USNO (U.S. Naval Observatory) from MJD 44089.994 to 51618.250 (McCarthy, 2000), we showed that a strong peak around 400 sidereal days in the spectrum of its di erences from the IERS96 nutation theory could be explained by adding a model Free Core Nutation (FCN) term in the form of a single damped oscillation. Then we developed a...

VISCOUS NUTATION DAMPER, MODELING AND ANALYSIS

In some aerospace vehicles, the tracking sensors which act in a tracking loop as stabilizer are mounted on a two degree of freedom gyro. The gyro must align its rotor axis with the line of sight in order to remove tracking errors. The tracking precision and sensitivity are functions of the gyros performance. One of the main factors in reducing the precision and producing instabilities is nutati...

Electrostatic analysis of the charged surface in a solution via the finite element method: The Poisson-Boltzmann theory

Electrostatic potential as well as the local volume charge density are computed for a macromolecule by solving the Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PBE) using the finite element method (FEM). As a verification, our numerical results for a one dimensional PBE, which corresponds to an infinite-length macromolecule, are compared with the existing analytical solution and good agreement is found. As a ma...
